It is a shame that the 1x2 gridfinity case is really only useful as a test model (to help with dialing in settings before making a larger case). So when I looked at the case again today, I thought that maybe it would be cool to use as a watch case. So I checked around to see if there were any gridfinity 1x2 watch holders, and there were a few to choose from. This one looked pretty cool, but I had to slightly modify it to fit the 1x2 case, since it sits the watch too far forward to fit the case well. After that, it was just a matter of stretching the 1x2 case from a 6U to a 12U. I did that by stretching the top and base by 21mm (3U). That change in height means it won't likely work with a standard 12U gridfinity bin, but it should work fine for a watch insert (since the lid would not be able to open/close due to interference with a bin). With the extra room, I was also able to add a small label to the design. I'm gonna get this on the printer today as a test, and if it works out, it will be posted later this week, along with a remix of Luocheng Huang's Gridfinity Watch Stand, which is modified to fit this case. Update 5/1/2024: The prototype watch case is almost done, and there have been a couple changes since the initial design. I decided to widen the TPU gasket by a few mm, which I think will work better. If it does, I will update the 1x2 6U case with the new TPU gasket design, and my roll it out to the existing 20bin and 25bin BFS later as well. I also found that the remixed watch holder was too small for my watches, so added a few larger options. Once my test prints are done and tested, I will upload the watch holder case, and the watch holder insert as separate designs (since the watch holder insert has more general utility for folks who use Gridfinity). Update 5/1/2024: The models are now tested and uploaded:

Somebody requested this on Printables, and I thought it would be cool, so here it is... a 4x4 and 4x5 Lidded Gridfinity Bin. It would be perfect if you want to fill up an entire 20 Bin Box for Stuff with one bin, or have some big stuff to store in one bin. They are available in 6U, 9U and 12U versions, with a plain or grid top (which would be used if you need to stack bins on top of it). You can find it on Printables or MakerWorld:
https://makerworld.com/en/models/443705 https://www.printables.com/model/857807-gridfinity-4x4-and-4x5-6u-and-12u-lidded-bin-for-s The A1 Mini/A1 spares case is going pretty well, I just need to verify that the tools will fit (or make the required changes so they will). Having printed some of the test parts though (including most of the case), it got me thinking that this is really just a mini Box for Stuff, which gave me a few more ideas. The pics above show where this project is going.
My plan right now is to prep and then upload a basic box design, followed by another that will have an insert, which screws into one or both halves of the box. The idea is that the insert can be customized, so the box can be used for different things. The first releases will probably include most of the parts to the right side of the pics, including the 3 compartment lid. After that, once the A1 parts are verified to fit, I plan to release the A1 tools bin insert and the top with the glue holder for the A1 spares design. Since this is a good size for a small portable soldering kit, I'm planning to port an old design for a Pinecil case over to this, which will hold a battery bank, some tips and a USB-C cable spool for the red 1 meter silicon USB-C cable that Pine64 sells for the Pinecil. Also planned is adding a blank insert to the standard size box, and then the same for the other sizes as well. Currently (not including different heights), there are 4 sizes of cases, not including the mini shown above (a 2 Bin, 16 Bin, 20 Bin and 25 Bin box currently). The mini (shown in the pics above) will not be gridfinity-ized, since it doesn't fit either a 3x or 4x bin configuration (there would be a lot of wasted space). There is no ETA on the insert mods for the existing designs, but I expect to get the mini Box for Stuff out in the next week or two, followed by either the A1 Spares box, or the Pinecil box. Update 4/28/2024 - The basic Mini Box for Stuff is now uploaded on Printables. It will be the basis for several remixes, which are described above, and should be released soon. www.printables.com/model/860326-mini-box-for-stuff-fits-a1-mini-prusa-mini-size-pr The A1 / A1 MINI spares case has also been uploaded today: www.printables.com/model/861390-bambu-a1-and-a1-mini-spares-and-tool-case Some time ago, I made a case for my Bambu X1C, which is really handy and gets used quite a bit. So I thought it would be cool to make a similar case for the Bambu A1 mini and A1 printers. There was only one problem though, I don't own, nor do I plan to buy, an A1 series printer. And Bambu does not sell the spares kit (separately) which ships with the A1 series printers. So being unable to obtain the A1 spares kit, I did the next best thing. I used dimensions from several existing designs to cobble together a design for a case, which holds all the A1 and A1 Mini spares. The case can be used with either the A1 or A1 Mini, even though there is a slight difference in spares between them (since they use different bed wiper parts). So after spending a few hours on the project, I think I have something that is close to done, however it will come with a warning, since I have no way to test that the spare parts will fit. I did test slice it however, and it will fit on an A1 Mini, even with a brim. Since this will take many hours to print, I may make some quicker printing test parts, or even attempt to make it modular, though I'm still thinking about that. Right now, there is no ETA right now for when this will get posted, but the design is close to done. The design is a remix of my X1C/P1P/P1S spares case. Although I did not directly remix from the following designs below, I did use dimensions for the spare parts holders, as well as community feedback in order to make the pockets for all the tools. Since I used the dimensions from these models, I will credit them as remix sources when I post it (edit, I decided to credit these models in the description, instead of as remix sources, since the final design does not use these models as a source, only some dimensions were used in earlier revisions):
The tool box will have several options, including the following:
Update 4/22/2024: I decided that since this is such a long print and there is a bit or risk involved, since I cannot test it, that I should make it modular. That way, if one of the part holders needs a tweak, it will only mean re-printing the parts tray, and not the whole base of the case. Even so, the tray is a 6-7 hour print, so there is still some risk involved. Update 4/23/2024: I posted on Reddit to ask for help with testing this prototype with the A1/A1 Mini tools, and one person stepped up to help (thanks pewpew1374!). That was the green light to test print this myself, and if that works out well, then I will upload the prototype and some test models, which will put this on the path to a final design. Right now I am touching up a few things with the design, which I should have noticed before. The issues are not show stoppers however, and they include:
Update 2: The above fixes have been done, and the printer is running the base now. I set up 3MF profiles in Bambu Studio for the A1, A1 mini and my X1C, with modifiers and adaptive layers. There are also brims on the A1 and A1 mini for the larger parts, since those are open frame machines, and may need a bit more help with adhesion (vs an enclosed printer like the X1C). The image below shows the A1 Mini profile, and all the possible options for the lids, labels and AMS options. This is really a 6 to 8 plate print (the 2 extra plates are for the TPU gasket option and the multicolor parts option). 4/27/2024: Thanks to Mici @ Printables, who ran off some test prints and provided me with feedback on how things fit, this project is back on track. I decided to change the design a bit, and drop the weird A1/A1 mini wiper holders, in favor of a simple lidded bin, which should be more versatile and not as ugly. I had to re-arrange things as well, and shrunk the cutter holder down from 5 cutters to 4, which is no big loss (I have yet to change a cutter in months of use). I'm running a test print now, which is one step closer to completing this one. Update 4/27/2024: The test prints are done (for what I can test), and things seem OK. There were a few changes since the last update, including an optimized SD card holder, and a latching lid for the small bin that was added to the insert. Update 4/28/2024: The A1 / A1 MINI spares case is now uploaded to Printables: www.printables.com/model/861390-bambu-a1-and-a1-mini-spares-and-tool-case I plan to upload it to MakerWorld later, once I get some feedback on the model. Update 6/20/2024: Quite a bit has happened with this design since the last post, thanks to feedback from Momor and Net7 at Printables. Their makes and comments helped move this design over the finish line. The A1 Hotend model by MaG on GrabCAD was also helpful to verify the fit of the hotends and socks (https://grabcad.com/library/bambulab-a1-hotend-1). I reworked the hotend, sock, needle tube, and hex wrench holders completely, and I think the new design should be easier to use and more flexible for minor variations in the tools. I test printed the changes, but since I don't have an A1, I did not print the whole module (no point). The updated model is version 8P, and it can be found over on Printables. Once I get some more feedback on Printables, I will upload it to MakerWorld as well. I also changed this design to the standard digital license, since I want to keep tighter control over the design, at least for now. The NC license is too permissive about redistribution, and since this is not fully tested, I want to keep it in one place.
https://www.printables.com/model/861390-bambu-a1-and-a1-mini-spares-and-tool-case This one may not see the light of day, but it was a request from a family member who needs a short extension that will allow using a Dyson DC35 from their wheelchair. This is about a 400mm extension, and is based on Davoque's "Dyson DC31 rigid extension tube connectors", which unfortunately does not fit the DC35. It's not really a remix since I modeled all the parts, but I did pull some dimensions from that design. I'm going to print it in PETG and the plan is to glue it together.
Update - this works, though it is a bit loose (but so are the stock nozzles). I think with a longer arm the looseness seems more apparent, though it's not that bad. I could probably tighten the dimensions for the connections up by less than a mm, and it would be fine. I have been working on an update to the small lidded bins which were just uploaded last week. The update was to add a filament hinge, which after testing, I prefer over the earlier version, which used a paperclip wire as the hinge pin. The design took a bit of tweaking, since I wanted to have the doors (on the 1x1 and 1x4 bins) grab the filament, to avoid the need for glue. I recommend using PETG for the hinge pins, or possibly HIPS if you have it. The bins are available in the following sizes:
1x4 (6 compartment) lidded bin with tab 1x2 (3 compartment) lidded bin with tab 1x1 (one compartment) lidded bin with tab They can be found at MakerWorld and Printables: Makerworld: https://makerworld.com/en/models/416342#profileId-318602 Printables: https://www.printables.com/model/834174-gridfinity-1xy-multi-compartment-lidded-bins-with |
