Anyway, the following series about WW1 on YouTube, is really interesting and well made. It takes WW1 week by week, which gives some perspective on how so many people's lives were wasted as fighting evolved from a style similar to the Civil War, to a newer form of combat, thanks to new technology. I'm still working though that series, which is going to take a while. For something quicker though, "A World Undone" is a so far a really good book on the tragic cluster that was WW1.
November 11 (Veterans Day in the US, Remembrance Day in the UK and Canada, and Armistice Day in France) will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. It was a war that was sold as "being over by Christmas" when it began in July 1914, but by the end in 1918, millions were killed thanks to the war mongering of a few powerful people, and the acquiescence of many more, who should have known better. I'm no historian, but seems that the lack of strong democratic institutions in Austria, Germany and Russia did not help either though.
