I'm Still Around

This site is not abandoned, I have just been extra busy for the past couple months.  My Dad busted his hip and I have been helping him out, so most of my free time was spent assisting him.  He is doing a bit better but it's a slow recovery.  My Job has also become much more stressful with cuts and such, but fortunately they have been understanding on the few times I have had to take time off to help my Dad.

With all the crap going on in the world right now though, I feel lucky that's the worst myself and my family have to deal with.  Reading whats happening in Ukraine makes me thankful that my family lives in a country which is not being threatened by the genocidal forces of Mordor, and is in fact supporting those who are.  Along those lines, if you live in the USA, and want to help get the ball rolling on more sustainable aid for Ukraine, please consider contacting your Representative and ask them to get a new Lend Lease Act for Ukraine moving so it can be voted on.  You can also find a list of companies and brands that are exiting Russia, and those that aren't as well, at the link here (some that are sticking with Russia will probably surprise you).

As for the content here, I'm gonna try and get my 3D printing and modeling hobbies back on track.  I expect that updates will be slower than my normal productivity, since I am still assisting my Dad.  There are a few new projects I have in mind though, which I will be posting as they develop.

Hi, I have only installed a BLTouch on an I3 Mega once with the Trigorilla 1.1 board, and I think Marlin has changed to make things "easier" since then. If you are using the current marlin, you can check out the example config for your printer (if you have an I3 or I3 Mega like the one I upgraded they will be here):

https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Configurations/tree/release-2.1/config/examples/AnyCubic

I had a look at the latest version examples for the i3 mega (as an example) and noticed some changes to how it defines the BL-Touch and 2208 drivers in the configuration.h for the I3's example configs (ex:
https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Configurations/blob/release-2.1/config/examples/AnyCubic/i3%20Mega/Configuration.h). I can't really go through the whole thing to be sure, but "it looks like" on the current version of Marlin, near the top there are the following which are commented out using the "//" (seems that it uses them to define the correct settings for most of the things that used to be done manually) - but things like probe offset would still have to be set I'm sure:

//#define I3MEGA_HAS_BLTOUCH
//#define I3MEGA_HAS_TMC2208

If you did not swap all the drivers to 2208's though, I would not suggest uncommenting the one for the TMC2208's since that looks like it assumes all drivers were swapped for the 2208's.

For the probe offsets I found it in configuration.h, and you can find it by searching for "Nozzle-to-Probe offsets", it will be listed as "#define NOZZLE_TO_PROBE_OFFSET" with some examples on how to set it up with a little ASCII diagram.

I hope that helps.

i got it up and running. my issue now is that, i can do filament in and out no problem. But when i go to print. the extruder doesn't turn on so in other words. I get no filament coming out just on that. when i print only. Can you give me a place to look in the config.h file or what should i do? I have the trigorilla board v1.1 and 2208 steppers stickman (i think is the name). Any help would be great.

Can you heat the nozzle and extrude using the printer menus?

Will it auto home using the menu?

When you try to print a file, what happens? Does the bed and nozzle get to temp, and does it attempt to do any ABL prior to the print?

If you can use the menus to extrude and home, then a couple things to check are:
1. filament sensor if you you have one
2. look over the start gcode in the slicer
3. Re-slice the file using a different slicer or try using the default profile for the machine in the slicer and re-slice.
4. You could also try a new SD or re-format the existing one in case there is some problem with the printer reading it.
