Yunnan Baiyao

Yunnan Baiyao is a traditional Chinese medicine which has been used to treat bleeding such as the type caused by the tumor in my dog's bladder.  It smells like musty dirt out of the package, and has more than a century of history of use.  There is also a small red pill in the pack which is used to prevent shock apparently (this stuff was used in several wars according to wikipedia).  Along with several other supplements, yunnan baiyo was suggested by a veterinarian I consulted who specializes in holistic medicine.  I plan to combine traditional and holistic medicine for my dog's treatment.  Having avoided Chinese dog treats due to the numerous problems with adulterated food products from that country, the irony of feeding my dog Chinese pills full of secret ingredients, does not escape me.  I trust in the experience of the vet who recommended it though, since he has been doing this for quite a while.

When I started her on yunnan baiyo about a week ago, she had very dark reddish urine and a confirmed infection.  She has since been on clavamox for the infection along with a NSAID, and now the supplements and yunnan baiyo for the past week.  Although I have not tested her urine since starting the supplements and yunnan baiyo, I do believe it is lighter in color and clearer.  I have not noted any side effects.  It is very early though, and there is a lot going on with the different meds she is on, as well as her health, so I doubt I will ever be able to say if the yunnan baiyo is working, but I hope is.
